Infographic: Finding Your Best Drone In 9 Easy Steps

August 27, 2019 By Mark Sheehan

Drones are some of the most fascinating gadgets in the whole spectrum of technology. They have evolved from being simple RC toys going for under $50 to become one of the fastest changing platforms that are helping to understand, study, and shape the world we live in.

It’s not a surprise that people like you and me feel attracted to these intriguing devices. However, a lot of enthusiast struggle when the finally decide to buy their first drone.

Why?

Well, all the marketing around drones use these high-ticket devices such as the Phantoms and the Mavics. There is no doubt that the footage they take and their capabilities are awesome, but one has to wonder if spending $1000 USD in one of these devices is strictly necessary, especially for a beginner.

Truth is, if you start your path with drones using one of these devices, congratulations! I think you’ll have an amazing flight experience. But… just one, or probably two.

The thing is, if you don’t have any previous flight experience with drones, you’ll certainly crash (you’ll crash anyways with lots of experience, but your response will be trained and this will help to save the gadget.) and the pieces will scatter all over the place.

And that’s where your $1000 USD will end…

On the other hand, you can follow a different approach, one that is more conservative and very enjoyable: A flight learning curve.

How to Start with Drones… The Right Way!

Holy Stone F181W

I’ve been flying RC helicopters, drones and RC airplanes since 2012, and during all those years I have witnessed the story I told you before.

Lots of people don’t see the value of a learning curve with drones, and rush into the hobby with an expensive gadget. The end of the story is not pretty in most cases, and 98% of the times is because of the lack of piloting skills.

It is true that drones are super easy to fly, but one has to wonder who says that. If you hear it from people like me, then you shouldn’t think it’s super easy. I say it because compared with some RC helis, drones are not that complicated.

However, someone with no experience flying RC gadgets at all may not feel the same way.

This is why if you are planing to start with drones, you shouldn’t underestimate them. They are super fun, and people have built complete careers around them, but in order to do so, you have to start with the right foot.

Here is how…

Here are the 9 things I thing every beginner should do to find the best drone for them.

How to buy the best drone for beginners

I want to tell you that these steps will surely help you find a great drone, and I think you’ll enjoy the learning curve process.

Also, and here is a great secret, don’t fall for those sites with a top 10 list of drones or stuff like that, at least not if these don’t explain how they are sorting or selecting these devices. This is what the infographic you just saw actually does!

Altair AA108The reason why I say this is because a lot of times people just see something online and they get it thinking they made the best choice, but what almost nobody realizes is that the best drone will not necessarily be that which is best for the average user, but best for you, and again, that is what this infographic is really good at.

Also, this guide is best for beginners, where I actually recommend to get a drone under 100 USD, yet, if you are past that stage and want to go to the next level, then you need a good selection of drones under 200 dollars. In my opinion, you want to look at a detailed review of these drones so you know not only which is best for you, but also, what to expect from a device like that. Here is a good analysis page where you can see exactly that.

Final words on how to select the best drone for beginners

Once you get the feel of flying your first drone, it will be simpler to move to more advanced models. When you get there, your responses to sudden changes in wind direction or strength will be trained and you’ll know what to do.

For now, it is time you get your very first drone for beginners and start having fun with it.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment and start the conversation about it. Also, be sure to share this on your social channels so other people know more about selecting their first drone.

Happy Flying!
